What did you do after graduation?
After high school, I planned to go to Temple University to study public health. However, my mother passed away just a few months after graduation. I stayed close to home--attended FIU and received a Bachelor’s degree in Health Service Administration and a Masters in Public Health with a specialization in health promotion and disease prevention. I worked at Miami-Dade AHEC for 5 years coordinating programs and managing grants, namely the center’s Susan G. Komen for the Cure community education grant. During that time I also became a Certified Health Education Specialist. I recently relocated to Washington, DC for a new position. I’m now responsible for the entire health education program of an MCO that’s specifically for children with special needs. I’ve been fortunate to earn a living serving the community which has always been my passion; it’s a trait that I inherited from my mom.  I’m also working on a Doctorate in Health Science and may do a little teaching in the near future.
