Alumna in the Spotlight: Dominique (Nikki) Renoit
Current Occupation: News Producer, Bay News 9
Title: Senior Producer
Your Academy at Coral Reef High School: International Baccaalaureate/International Studies
Your Favorite Memory/Activity about the Reef: I loved every minute of driver's ed. Something about giving teens free range to cars seems both crazy and suicidal.
After graduation:
After graduation, I took off for college in the middle of Missouri. I graduated in May 2007 with a Bachelors of Journalism, specializing in convergence journalism. Degree in hand, I ran back to the sunny skies of Florida. I'm working in the Tampa Bay area, living in St. Petersburg and still take the occasional drive back to Miami for a long weekend. My mom still lives pretty close to the Reef, so for nostalgia's sake - I take a drive past every once in awhile. I'm trying to enjoy every minute we get here - I get out and travel whenever I can!

How to Plan a High School Reunion on a Budget: Part 1
In June 2013, alumni of Coral Reef High School, Miami's Mega Magnet, class of 2003 gathered for a remarkable weekend remembering life, friends, and youth during our 10 year reunion. Along the way, organizers Anais Sori, Cynthia Palanquet, Raul Garcia and Leonardo Santos Araujo were helped by fellow 'Cuda alumni, friends, family, and community to accomplish the goal of giving '03 Alumni the reunion they asked for-- on a budget.
If you do not have a reunion company hired, this series is for you. If you have hired a company, please comment with your recommendation! Your contributions are always welcome. Over the next few posts, you'll learn how to plan and execute your reunion with little trouble and lots of fun! This is a five part series of posts which will later be summarized for those who missed it. So what to do first?
1. Establish your committee and its members.
Groups need leadership. Assign roles and tasks so that everyone does their part.
2. Determine how the committee will communicate throughout planning, i.e. Private Facebook Message, Secret Facebook Group, Email, Google Group?
OVER COMMUNICATION IS BETTER THAN NONE AT ALL.
3. Claim and EIN Number from the IRS
Typically the treasurer of the committee will do this as they are the keepers of the funds.
4. Open a FREE checking account with the EIN to manage all reunion related funds *This is especially important so that committee members are not mixing their personal bank funds with reunion funds. You will be able to track costs and reimburse members for any out of pocket costs (and there will be out of pocket costs).
5. Create a FREE PayPal account and link the checking account.
We live in a digital world. Many businesses now accept PayPal as a method of payment. It's also a simple way to reimburse committee members. When ticket sales start you will want to either host a PayPal button on your site or link your PayPal account to the ticket sale tool you are using such as Eventbrite. PayPal creates a smooth flow of payment going out and coming in. *Keep in mind these sites have minimal fees to consider when budgeting and planning on ticket prices. Pricing and tickets will be addressed in a later post.
If you're Coral Reef High School alumni there's good news, we already did most of this for you. All that's left is selecting your committee! If you're planning a reunion for a CRHS Class email anais@cudareunion.com for permissions and access to the CRHS Alumni Association account to help you budget your reunion. Need a CudaReunion.com email address for you and your committee members? Just ask! The alumni association exists to support you!
The next post will be about selecting your events and setting up your tickets including what should your rate be and how do you launch your sales. How much in advance should you notify and start tracking down alumni? What are the costs to include in ticket pricing? How do we track sales? Lots of questions we asked in our own planning and thankfully were able to get answered!
What questions would you ask? Post a comment and it may be addressed in the next post!

Alumna in the Spotlight: Anais Sori, M.A.
Current Occupation: Marketing Manager
Title: Social Media Manager/Online Marketing Consultant
Academy at Coral Reef High School: VPA, Orchestra: Violin
Favorite Memory/Activity about the Reef: Daily Lunch and Breakfast with the usual crew. DJ party at Lunch hour. Floating around visiting the diverse groups of friends I had everywhere. There's so much I can list here. My high school experience was like non-other. I am truly grateful to say I loved high school.
After graduation: Soon after graduation I went to a concert at Al Lopez Park to celebrate Inauguration Day of Dominican Republic before packing up my car and driving into the next chapter of my life--college. I attended the University of South Florida and graduated in 2007 with my B.A. in English, Creative Writing. After what seems like a career as an intern, I finally got my first permanent position at the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU) where I worked for the HACU National Internship program in Washington, D.C. While working for HACU I completed my Master of Arts degree program in Strategic Communications. My experience at HACU coupled with my under graduate and graduate degrees lead me to chapter two of life after high school--career. For the last eight years I have been a social media marketing consultant and manager helping small and large businesses or organizations achieve their goals with online marketing.
This past year I had the honor to use what I have learned about web content, social media, and email marketing to spread the word about our 10 year class reunion. After all the years of hard work and learning it was an absolute treat to finally give back to the class of 2003. Thank you for being my friends, my classmates, and teachers. As alumni of Coral Reef High School we have something special within us and all around us. That special something is what brought us back together in 2013 and it will always keep us together. Once again we united as one to celebrate our lives. We celebrated the happiness we once had as children, as teenagers, and as young adults who perhaps had the best high school experience there ever was. I look forward to seeing who plans our 15th or 20th year reunion and helping them communicate their efforts as we did in 2013.

Alumna in the Spotlight: Amy Rejaian
Academy: Health Sciences
Favorite Memory: Going on HOSA field trips and cheering on my cousin, Ingrid, as she played for our hockey team.
After graduation:
After high school I attended the University of Miami and graduated in 2007 with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry.
In the spring of 2009 I began medical school at AUC (American University of the Caribbean). Many of my most treasured memories stem from my time in St. Maarten, where I completed the basic sciences portion of my schooling. After that, I returned to the U.S. and completed my clinical rotations in both Miami and NY hospitals.
I am extremely grateful to say that last month I graduated med school and was fortunate to match into my top choice for Family Medicine. In just a few weeks I will be starting my residency at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
My plan for the future (if I’m lucky) is to work for an organization like Doctors Without Borders, where I can travel the world and do a bit of good at the same time. In the meantime, I’m sure that residency will have me dedicating all of my spare time to sleeping, studying, and sleeping some more.
